Antiquing

Went out antiquing yesterday with a friend.  We had planned on going to three co-ops but spent so much time in the first two that we never made it to the third one!  LOL!

Didn't come home with much but managed to find a few things I had to have!

I have been wanting a step stool for a long time now, I finally got tired of the hubby yelling at me because I stand on a chair to reach the kitchen cabinets!  I looked at new ones, which I love but they were getting bad reviews.  They just don't make stuff like they used to!

 I finally found this one yesterday and it is perfect!

Got this little gadget for re-sale.  The color is just awesome!

This is all mine!

Now, have absolutely no clue what this is but I found it interesting and can just see it hanging in a primitive farmhouse!

These come off the hanger and look like a funnel.  Each one is stamped with numbers from 1 through 36.  

I'm going to need to show it to some groups I'm in and see if anyone knows what it is.

Antique Day

Wow, what a great day I had today!  I just have to share.  

I went to the first antique mall and didn't do that great in there, only picked up one item:

This is a great set of anodized measuring utensils.  I found another one before that is just the spoons so this was a great find!

I decide to stop at another antique mall and they had some outdoor tables set up and people were there!  It didn't look like much but oh, my!

The first table I stopped at had some fun items.  I ended up taking items and putting them on an empty table next to it and had the table almost filled up.  Check it out!

This was the first thing I saw and the box itself was just cracking me up.  It's Magical, It's Beautiful . . . Boy, do they know how to sell!

It was never opened and it really caught my curiosity!  Asking the seller about it, it got him curious too, so he opened the box to see what color it is.  We didn't take anything out of the box because it is so nicely wrapped but I could see it was a brass color.

What a lot of uses it has!  LOL!

The next things I found were these great Gay Fad onion soup bowls!  He was only asking a quarter each, couldn't pass those up!

Now, last year, I wanted a mug tree but this year, I can't remember why.  LOLOL!  This is a full set still in the box, never used.

One thing I got that I haven't taken photos of is this artificial Christmas tree by Hudson Valley Company.  I don't even know how tall it is because again, still in the box, brand new, never opened.  I'm guessing it's around 3 feet tall.  I did open the box to get the paperwork out of it and it has the date of 1985 on it.  I need to do some research on it.  I had to quickly hide it before the hubby saw it!  BUT, it was only $3.00!!!

The next item is fun!  It's a gravel art panel still in the box with the plastic around it.  Tell me, should I open it and try to do it?

Easy to do.  Um.  I wonder about that.  Looks like way too many colors for me!

Somewhat dates it!

He had some jigsaw puzzles still sealed and I like to get those for my mom's community center.  I got three of them for .75 cents each.

All this stuff, especially the tree, filled up my trunk!  But I only spent $18.00 for all of it, can't beat that.

Ran around to the other tables and found one more item.

I want to sell these but not sure where I can sell them.  Not sure eBay will even allow them.  They are the original!

Ran inside the antique mall, since that is what I went there to do and got two more items.  I know this is tacky and gross but I love it!

Bakelite Beauty!

I just love Bakelite and this one is a beauty.  It's a two piece belt buckle that is heavily carved.

So many of these are missing parts, this one is complete.

New old lamp

A while back, I purchased new living room furniture. 

Since I can't get the hubby to do anything about my 1980's paneling, I decided I'd work that into the look and just go retro.  I gave great thought to shag carpet and bean bag chairs but knew I wouldn't get away with that.  My sofa is pretty plain but I funked up the room with funky chairs.  This is the fabric of the chairs.

Now, I needed either a retro table, my thoughts were something with a Formica top or I need a floor lamp.  I was torn between a fiberglass 2-tier shaded one or a floor to ceiling one.  Plus, it didn't have to be old, just look old and funky.  The colors in my chairs are an ivory background with dark and light brown spots and a little bit of robin's egg blue in them.  I searched hours and hours, days turned into months and even a year.  I could find things I loved but had to turn away from them because of colors.  Most fiberglass shades I was finding were in pinks and greens.

About 6 months ago, a friend tells me she found a shade in her mother's house that she thinks I might like.  She brings it up to me and I just about fell over!  This is what she GAVE me:

This is so perfect, I could not believe it!  Fiberglass, 2-tier and the best colors ever!  They are shown better in the last photo.

Now, I have to find the best floor light stand.  Again, I spent so much time on eBay and Craig's List, was always on the lookout in antique shops, thrift shops and flea markets.  It was another 2 months when my hubby and I went antique shopping and buried behind a ton of stuff, the hubby found the perfect stand.  A clerk patiently dug it out so we could look at it.  It's brass with a marble base, was missing some parts which we weren't sure we could replace but it was definitely the best one we ever saw.  The clerk took it upon herself to call the owner of the booth and ask him if he'd consider a better price.  He came down to $60 on it.  We went home without it to give it some thought, the next day, the hubby stopped back into the store and picked it up.  

Of course, it's surrounded by paint by numbers.  I can change those out with seasons or something fun like that!

I love how it turned out and it was well worth the wait!  Now I have light in the living room again!  Either the hubby gets rid of that paneling or it will just keep getting funkier in there!  I took the handles off the beautiful oak Yield House coffee table and replaced them with faucet knobs in different colors.

Thrifting! Day 1

I just love staying in hotels!  Can turn every single light on, air conditioning/heat as long as you want and do things you wouldn't do in your own home.  Although, I've all ready ironed my T-shirts, which I don't do at home!  LOL!  I check in and immediately unpack, iron and clean the coffee maker.  Yes, clean the coffee maker.  I don't leave home without cleaner and my own coffee.  All that is done, so I decided to take some photos and post them.  Bear with me, I'm using a tiny little netbook (which I love but it's tiny and old and slow) and it's an older version of Windows so I had to figure out how to edit my photos.  They aren't the best but I think you'll get them.

First place I stopped is my all time favorite place.  I found this item in the office supply section.  It's cloth covered and oh, so industrial.

The Pillsbury Doughboy!!

This was a little bag filled with goodies.  You never know exactly what you'll find inside.

There's a few mini Christmas ornaments which will be perfect for my Norfolk Island Pine tree but what I spotted that I really loved are these:

Aren't they just the cutest?  I know there's a name for these so I have some research to do.  It's a heavy paper material.  They have pipe cleaner arms!

I got two of these cute clown heads for dolls.  I think I'll need to remove them from the bags in order to get decent photos.

It seems it's thin pickings right now.  Maybe people are still having yard sales.  I am earlier than usual.  I went to 3 more thrift shops and only found these.

Metal bookends in a wonderful color and in great condition.

Maybe I'll have better luck tomorrow!

More vintage punch cards

I'm going to continue with the vintage punch cards.  You can click on the photos to enlarge, if you want to see things close up.  I won't show you the letters in this post, they are basically the same form letter with a few words changed!  And I'll leave out the order forms and envelopes or this post will go on forever.

This first one is the punch card for a musical treasure chest!  Lovely.
