Spring cleaning/organizing is in order in my house! I like to think outside the box when it comes to storage and organizing. Desk caddy as a tissue holder, the pewter dish for paper clips etc.

Mecation - Day 3

I had a difficult time shopping today.  It was snowing and I think I was more concerned about that than shopping.  

I do have a few things to share.  

I found this anodized aluminum rack for holding spools of thread.  I love it!

At the same shop, these two sewing buttons of Scottie dogs:

I ended up texting a friend while in that shop because they had a color wheel for those aluminum Christmas trees and I knew she was looking for one.  She didn't get back to me before I left the shop but when she did, I ended up going back for it!

Now, this is interesting.  I looked at it and put it down but ended up going back for it.  This is not a mass produced item.  I just have a feeling some man made it while sitting around his machine shop one day.  Maybe his wife was bugging him for one.  It's obviously hand made!

I love it!  He did a nice job.  I love the old browned paper!

I treated myself to this old pad of receipts!  Not a well known brand of salt but I just liked it.

Oh and the puppy paint by number behind it!  :o)

Now, yesterday I showed you several paint by numbers and after I posted, I went to research them and darn it, it's a set of 4 not just 3, called Four Seasons.  I'm missing the Swan Song to the set.

Have you ever seen something that you are on the fence over?  I saw this item today that just sticks in my head.  It's a bit higher than I usually pay for something but it's just so unusual, I wouldn't mind buying it.  Now, could I make a profit on it, that's the question.  I have to think about this!

Mecation - Day two

While the other jurors were stuck in a stuffy court room, I was out having a ball!  Yep, for the first time in the 20 months I've been serving on grand jury duty, I missed a session and to tell the truth, I did it on purpose!  I have a feeling someone will be getting back at me for that, it just might snow tomorrow!  Seriously :(

In order of my purchases, here it goes!

I'm hoping someone can use these.  It's call Candyland Bingo and has the cutest little cardboard figures with it.  

There's over 40 of the figures, maybe they can be used for a children's party?  I'm sure names could be written on them with a Sharpie!

I love these colors!  Two Dymo label makers.

Avocado green storage rack for cups and saucers.

I thought this was cute.  It's a planter but I think writing utensils in the back and a memo pad in the front would work.  Or how about next to a sink for a sponge or scouring pad?  It is marked Fredericksburg Art Pottery U.S.A. and the factory burned down in the 1960's, so that dates it somewhat.

And a really cool industrial type paper punch.  It looks better in person!

Oh, honey, my Goodwill gift card needs to be reloaded!  LOLOL!

My next stop is a small place that has books and furniture.  I got myself 3 more packs of school paper, anyone want some?  I'm going to keep the larger one, I've been using this stuff to print out my Etsy invoices. It's school practice paper!  Remember it?  Learn your A, B, C's on it . . .

Well, my next stop was interesting!  Take a look at what I found!

Okay, last paint by number for now.  It looks much nice in person, trust me!

My photos look so washed out, they are supposed to be bright!  This is the cutest Burwood set I've ever seen, just could not resist it!

I've gotten a small collection of old looking rulers!  These were only ten cents a piece.

And one last item from this shop, a Vera Neumann scarf!  It's just fab.  Anyone know how to wash and iron silk?

That's it for thrift shopping, now it's onto antique shops and malls.  I made one stop at an antique mall and did some damage.

I've been wanting one of these since I spied one online.  Found this today and it was on sale, so now it's mine!  It's a 2 1/2 quart casserole, so sunny!  I have 2 pieces in my shop of this pattern so I think I just might have to remove those from the shop and keep them!  It's by Federal Glass but I've never been able to find out what the pattern is called.

Here's another gem!!  I had two pieces of this that I found at a thrift shop and I sold them.  I've regretted it since.  Today, I found a complete set!  Not sure if I'll be able to keep it, I want to but have to see if I have a spot to store them.  Again, these are difficult to find information about.  They are not listed in any Pyrex books or found on the Pyrex Love site.  I've heard it called both Red Cherries and Cherries and Checks.  I'm leaning towards Cherries and Checks.

AND, I was lucky enough to get these on sale, too!

These will look great with my red Bakelite!

Black Friday Thrifting

I stay  far away from any of the craziness of Black Friday so my hubby and I decided to take a trip out to New Holland for a visit to my favorite thrift shop!  At first, I was very disappointed, I went through most of the store and found nothing.  OMG, we drove all the way out here for nothing?  But the last remaining rooms were to uncover a lot of items for me to bring home and make the trip all worth while!

My hubby was the first to find something, he found another Stuart Woods book that he didn't have and he was thrilled at the price, only .50 cents!  LOLOL!

Then, I was off and running.  In the craft room, I found these two rulers.  I have quite a few of these older wooden rulers and especially love the ones with advertising on but these are both without the advertising.

Then, in a room that seems like it is a misc. collectibles room, I found this laying on the floor.  

The thing that interested me most with this were the graphics.  I wasn't even sure what it was.  I thought it was an object to keep the sheets tucked in around your feet while you are asleep.

When I got home, I did some research on it and realized it makes a "tent" out of the sheets or blankets on the bed to keep them off your feet!  According to the patent number on it, it's from the 50's.

An old copy of the game PIT from late 1910's!  I'm not sure if all the cards are there but think it's a neat display piece or for scrapbooking pieces:

Then, next to the reading room, I found these on the magazine racks:

These are amazing little magazines called Pack-o-Fun!  They are magazines of crafts to make from things around the house, such as paper rolls, cans, Christmas cards etc.  I got 60 of them total!  I started to go through each one but it was taking so much time, I had to stop.  There's a lot of things for group leaders to do with kids, Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts etc.  Even skits at times.  They date from early 1950's to around 1964.  I love some of the advertising, too, like a magazine on What to Do with Marshmallows!

I got some more bookends.  Which we'll need with all the Stuart Woods books the hubby is collecting!

And my favorite item!  A covered bridge paint by number!

We decided to go upstairs to pay.  This register is never open when I'm there normally but it was that day.  We went ahead and paid, the hubby headed for the car and I decided to take one more look through the toy section.  I didn't get out of there without finding more.  

First are these cars and trucks, which I want for a project and they are always too expensive but here, they were only .50 cents each:

It is a wooden boat and when you twist the paddle wheel around with the rubber band, you could let it go in the water and it will unwind and propel the boat.  I think it's handmade and I'd like to think it's by a loving grandpop for his grandchildren!

We took a ride over to Shady Maple for their buffet and had a nice lunch.  There's way too much food at that place so from now on, we'll visit the lunchette downstairs!

I took him over to the new pond store that opened up about 2 years ago and he's never been there and then we headed home.  It really was a wonderful day.
