A Thrifting I will go

I'm off on a little thrifting, bargain hunting and antique weekend.  Today was so windy, it was hard getting around but I had a very nice surprise when I got to the hotel.  The hubby booked me into an executive suite. I knew he did, said I needed it but it was still a nice surprise because it is better than I thought it would be!

I didn't get much today, so I'll have to share stories or something!  The first place I stopped, I only spent $2.00 plus tax.  This is my all time favorite place to go and it's disappointing when I don't find tons of stuff.  I did find this lavender soap dish though and have to do research on it to see how old it is.  It is such a beautiful color but I wonder if anyone can use it:

 It's a wall mount soap dish, can you image having a purple bathroom?  It really is pretty.  There's no markings on it so I don't know who made it.

I'm going to save the second item for last because there's a story behind it.  :o)

At the next stop, only one item.  A vintage Kodak light bar!  The sockets and handle are Bakelite and I had a gift card.  :o)

Did I tell you my room has an electric fireplace?

My next stop again, only one item but it's a beauty!  LOLOL!  Yep, of course, it's a paint by number for a total of $1.59!  It's called Fluffy Kittens:

And the last stop yielded me 3 mugs.  Now, late last year, we purchased a new Corelle set called Squared.  I bought the pieces open stock because the mugs were boring and I really didn't need anymore mugs but I have since gotten a mini-Keurig coffee maker and now I need larger mugs!  This is the set I bought:

The mugs I found today are by Corelle but called Chocolate Mint and are similar to this pattern.  They don't have to match exactly since I don't serve coffee with the meal but save it for later with dessert (bought with a gift card again):

They all remind me of my funky living room chairs!

Now, for several years now, I've been searching for this stuff I used to play with when I was a kid.  I have no idea why it was on my mind so much, but I really wanted to know more about it.  I just couldn't remember the name of it.  I thought dipsy doodle, dipsy something or other, kept doing searches all over the place and could never find it.  I could remember the Creepy Crawlers we used to play with all the time but not this stuff I used to make flowers.  Every time, parts would pop into my head and I'd do another search but never found anything.

That's it!!!!  Whimsy Dip!  OMG, I used to spend hours upon hours making flower petals during the evenings (even as a kid, I had no life)!  Then, it had to sit so the next day, I would rush home from school to finish my flowers.  I wonder if the cans of dip are still good!  Best part, it was only $1.00 so I was one happy camper.

You shape the wire as a petal, dip it into the latex film and let it sit.  Apparently, it was pulled off the market for toxic substances.  That explains a lot, huh?  LOL!  Well, now that I know what it is, I researched it and you can still purchase the dip, under a different name now and still make flowers and things for hours upon hours!  This includes a booklet of patterns such as butterflies, balloons and much, much more!  But wait, there's more!  The flower centers are still in the box!  I just love this, something I have been remembering from my childhood and here it is!

I just know when I tell my Mom about this, her eyes are going to roll back into her head!

Did I tell you, two TV sets and a super huge bed?  A living room area, a kitchenette area?  I'm never leaving.
