Thrift shopping

Ever go thrift shopping and come home with items for re-sale but the more you look at them, the more you want to keep them?

That's the case with some of these items!  I thought I was SO lucky to find these, it's unusual to come home with 4 items for re-sale that I got at fantastic prices and such fun stuff.  I clean them up, research them and then photograph them and as I do, think about keeping them!

I found this stitchery kit that just looks so fun and funky, I couldn't resist it but I won't have any trouble selling this!

Another item to sell is this bright red desk caddy.

Here is where it becomes difficult!  I just love this casserole by Pyrex called 'Designs'.  Not an easy item to find and in such great condition.

Now, would you know what this is?

Not me, thankfully, it has part of the original cover with it.

Now I want to keep it but know I shouldn't.

Unusual Vintage Pyrex Mixing Bowls

I touched on these in my Mecation posts but thought I'd show them again.

I spent the day trying to get really good photos so I could list them in my Etsy shop.  I took tons of photos just trying to get 5 I felt worthy of them.  I took them with different props, in different lighting, with different backgrounds and by the time I went to edit the photos, I decided to keep them.  LOLOL!

I'm not positive but I think the name of this set is Red Cherries.  They are marked Pyrex, so I know that for sure but even the site called Pyrex Love doesn't show them.

It's just an amazing set of Pyrex!

Oh so retro!

Can you just image these in a red kitchen?

With red Bakelite!

I guess I could be talked into selling them for the right price but for now, they are all mine!

Mecation - Day two

While the other jurors were stuck in a stuffy court room, I was out having a ball!  Yep, for the first time in the 20 months I've been serving on grand jury duty, I missed a session and to tell the truth, I did it on purpose!  I have a feeling someone will be getting back at me for that, it just might snow tomorrow!  Seriously :(

In order of my purchases, here it goes!

I'm hoping someone can use these.  It's call Candyland Bingo and has the cutest little cardboard figures with it.
There's over 40 of the figures, maybe they can be used for a children's party?  I'm sure names could be written on them with a Sharpie!
I love these colors!  Two Dymo label makers.
Avocado green storage rack for cups and saucers.
I thought this was cute.  It's a planter but I think writing utensils in the back and a memo pad in the front would work.  Or how about next to a sink for a sponge or scouring pad?  It is marked Fredericksburg Art Pottery U.S.A. and the factory burned down in the 1960's, so that dates it somewhat.
And a really cool industrial type paper punch.  It looks better in person!
Oh, honey, my Goodwill gift card needs to be reloaded!  LOLOL!

My next stop is a small place that has books and furniture.  I got myself 3 more packs of school paper, anyone want some?  I'm going to keep the larger one, I've been using this stuff to print out my Etsy invoices. It's school practice paper!  Remember it?  Learn your A, B, C's on it . . .

Well, my next stop was interesting!  Take a look at what I found!

Oh come on now, what did you expect?
I love the one above, it's so Tom Sawyer looking!

Okay, last paint by number for now.  It looks much nice in person, trust me!
My photos look so washed out, they are supposed to be bright!  This is the cutest Burwood set I've ever seen, just could not resist it!
I've gotten a small collection of old looking rulers!  These were only ten cents a piece.
And one last item from this shop, a Vera Neumann scarf!  It's just fab.  Anyone know how to wash and iron silk?
That's it for thrift shopping, now it's onto antique shops and malls.  I made one stop at an antique mall and did some damage.

I've been wanting one of these since I spied one online.  Found this today and it was on sale, so now it's mine!  It's a 2 1/2 quart casserole, so sunny!  I have 2 pieces in my shop of this pattern so I think I just might have to remove those from the shop and keep them!  It's by Federal Glass but I've never been able to find out what the pattern is called.

Here's another gem!!  I had two pieces of this that I found at a thrift shop and I sold them.  I've regretted it since.  Today, I found a complete set!  Not sure if I'll be able to keep it, I want to but have to see if I have a spot to store them.  Again, these are difficult to find information about.  They are not listed in any Pyrex books or found on the Pyrex Love site.  I've heard it called both Red Cherries and Cherries and Checks.  I'm leaning towards Cherries and Checks.

AND, I was lucky enough to get these on sale, too!

These will look great with my red Bakelite!

Well, off to the hot tub!

Craig's List!

I've been searching for a retro floor lamp or one that looks retro and someone suggested I search Craig's List.

I have to laugh at the quality of items listed from my area, Allentown, to the quality of items listed from say, Philadelphia.  The stuff around here just plain sucks.  Same thing with yard sales, don't even bother in this area unless you want baby clothes and toys.

Anyway, while looking I found a casserole that I fell in love with!  I contacted the lady and she hadn't sold it yet so I said I'd like to have it.  Well, the two of us just couldn't get together immediately and I called her in the afternoon to see what we could do.  She was busy, I was busy and she really didn't want to wait for the weekend.  I got the feeling she thought I was just yanking her chain so I offered to drop the phone and run right over.  I offered to pay for it via PayPal but she says she doesn't have PayPal.  HUH?  She must live in a cave!  I never thought I'd hear myself say this, but thank goodness I have GPS now!  She almost does live in a cave!

Take a look at what my very first Craig's List purchase was!

It's called Golden Hearts by Pyrex.
It is a promotional piece from 1958.  I'm not sure the candle warmer is original to this, it did come with one but just not sure this is the one.

I'm really not sure what to think about Craig's List.  I'm really not crazy about complete strangers showing up at my door.  But from what I hear, people do it all the time and are successful at it.  It's free and instant cash, so who knows.  What are your thoughts?

Finds!

My latest
antique finds!
This is the Grapevine pattern from Pyrex.  It's got the beautiful Delphite Blue inside and on the bottom.  It's from the 60's and is the small bowl to a chip and dip set.

This is fun.  It is a tape moistener!

You can load a roll of tape to it, fill the basin with water and roll the tape over the roller to moisten it.

It's super heavy!  The base is cast iron.

This one is all mine!  A Willow Oak water tray.  I was lucky to find it for only $4.00!

Another piece of cubist.  I love how this washed up and sparkles.  Only $2.00!

I found another candy container!  A sailboat.  I guess once the candy was gone, you can use this for an ashtray.  No, Humpty isn't included!

Stuff!

I had to go out today.  Had to.  I've been feeling so housebound lately, the weather has kept me from going out too much.  I want to go shopping!  And while the weather is nice, I better get out or the next thing I know, it will be snowing.

I stopped at one thrift shop and found a huge bag of coin wrappers.  I decided to get them because if you ask for them at the bank these days, you are lucky if they hand you five wrappers!  Best part, they were only .97 cents.

It seemed to be a porcelain day, for some reason!  Check this out!
What is it?  Got me, I guess it's a letter holder.  Do you know?
Now, not sure why but I had to have these.  LOLOL!
Yes, they are porcelain toilet paper holders!  One is an almond color and the other one is an off white color.  One is marked USA and the second one isn't marked at all.

I continued onto another shop and I kid you not, look what I found at this one!
It's a beautiful pale green toilet paper holder!  Who says you have to use it for tp?  I vote you buy it from me and use it as a candy dish.  The wheels are mine, you can't have those.

Have a shop, a booth in an antique mall?  Why not use these for business card holders?  They really are neat! What uses can you think of?
And finally, the last stop, I found this awesome casserole!
I know, it's not too exciting when you see it at this angle, but let's look closer!
And even closer:
It's olives!!!  A Pyrex divided casserole.  The outside is a fired on greenish/yellow color with the olives on the lid.  It's called Verde Olives by Pyrex and I'm lovin' it!

Vintage Pyrex

I haven't been out doing too much in the way of antique shopping but I had lunch today with my Mom so while I was in a different area, I decided to stop at this one thrift shop.

They really didn't have much but I did find this neat casserole!

It's a promotional piece from the 1960's and apparently there isn't much of it around

It's called Gourmet.  It nice and big, 2 1/2 quart!  It's missing the lid but I think that can be replaced, the pattern and condition are more important, I think!  It's in great shape, doesn't even look like it was ever used. One small surface scratch inside but I think that is from someone putting something inside it, perhaps for storing it.

I almost put it back several times but I'm glad I didn't!
