Thrift shopping

Ever go thrift shopping and come home with items for re-sale but the more you look at them, the more you want to keep them?

That's the case with some of these items!  I thought I was SO lucky to find these, it's unusual to come home with 4 items for re-sale that I got at fantastic prices and such fun stuff.  I clean them up, research them and then photograph them and as I do, think about keeping them!

I found this stitchery kit that just looks so fun and funky, I couldn't resist it but I won't have any trouble selling this!

Another item to sell is this bright red desk caddy.

Here is where it becomes difficult!  I just love this casserole by Pyrex called 'Designs'.  Not an easy item to find and in such great condition.

Now, would you know what this is?

Not me, thankfully, it has part of the original cover with it.

Now I want to keep it but know I shouldn't.

Chair Makeover

It was time to put new seat covers on my dining room chairs.  It's not easy finding fabrics anymore, not too many places to buy it.  Only craft shop that has a decent selection is JoAnn's and oh my goodness are they expensive for upholstery fabric!

They have the beautiful designer material on sale right now for 50% off but that still means around $40 a yard on sale!  I don't think so.  They had a smaller selection of light weight upholstery fabrics for a nice price but I couldn't find anything I really liked and I didn't want to settle.

Purchasing online made me nervous, can't feel it or know if the colors were true to the photos.  Most places will send you swatches but even those are on the expensive side! Let's face it, go to eBay and you can find a good bargain.  I found so many fabrics that I just loved, it was hard to decide!

I wanted to change these:

Into something fun and funky retro.  This is the fabric I finally decided on:

And this is what happened to my chairs:

And I had just enough to make a matching tablecloth!

Vintage Punch Cards

A lot of times, while on my antique travels, I'd see these vintage punch boards.  I loved the graphics on them, some so bright and wonderful.  They often advertised cigarettes, liquor or casino games and you'd see them on counters in stores and at bars etc.  Here's a few old boards:

Well, these brought back some memories of my childhood.  I remember coming home from school with something similar to these when I was a kid.  Not as complex or pretty, just plain ones that they would use for fund raising purposes.  I remember I was always in trouble when it came to that time of the year because before I could get my card home with me, I would have every hole punched out of them and then my parents had to pay the full amount of money.  :o)

Since I thought the punch boards were too expensive, I started collecting the smaller, cardboard ones that I call punch cards.

The first one I got is called Lucky Girl:

You pick out the name of a girl you want, write your name next to that girl's name and punch out the hole of that girl.  You would then have to pay the amount under that name, in this case, from 1 cent to 39 cents.  The money collected went to the source raising money.

Then, these attracted me:
Probably the clowns, who knows!

Next came these:

Recently, a friend of mine came across these at a thrift shop and I snapped them up!  I loved going through all these, complete with the original paperwork, letters, envelopes to return the money, inserts etc.  What fun it is to see some of the merchandise offered!

Now, come on, who wouldn't want these items?  LOLOL!

For some reason, this one really appeals to me!  I would LOVE to have this ashtray to go along with all this paperwork and punch card!  Oh how I want to find this in a thrift shop some day!  It's just makes me giggle.

And for that lucky couple!  His and her watches!

And for the man of the house!  A 36 piece work saver!  The letters crack me up, the all read "It's Yours - - practically as a gift!"

I got about 12 of these, so I won't show them all, but you get the idea.  They are dated around 1959 and I can say that because one of them says 1959 on it!

If you'd like to read a great article about punch boards and cards, here is an article from Collector's Weekly:

Hope you enjoyed yet another collection of mine!

Okay.

I guess even the sock monkey needs to exercise.

This is the result of the little dog trying to hide her big brother's toy in her den.

So many toys, so little time.
Why did I bother to buy her a bed?

This is what happens when Mom gets bored.  I couldn't help it, her hair was in her eyes, she needed a barrette.
Sometimes she forgets to tuck in her tongue.

Always an amusement to me!

Fun Stuff!

To feed my addiction to Sharpies, I know they made this one just for me! I knew it was coming out and waited not so patiently until I finally found it! Introducting the newest addition to my Sharpie drawer!

It's a stainless steel Sharpie!

Beautifully engraved with Sharpie. But wait, there's more!

It's refillable!

Also, I've wanted to purchase reusable grocery bags for some time now and I finally found the perfect ones!
